Background of the college-

Matajijabai Govt.P.G Girls college Motitabela Indore is the lead collage of indore district in M.P. The college has travelled from its small beginning as an inter college(1952) to its present status of a multifaculty autonomous college for girls. It got its status of a degree college in 1956. When it was one of the three girls college in the state. Since then the college has always looked forward covering several milestones

A brief summery is as follows-

• 1956 :- Establishment as a degree college with arts faculty(political science,economics,Hindi Lit. and English Lit.). Smt. Indu Mehta was the first principal.
• 1958 :- Science Faculty introduced(with botany,chemistry.zoolagy,maths and physics.)
• 1961 :- U.G.C recognition under 2(f) received for the college.
• 1963 :- Shifting of the college from its school building to the college building. Construction of the science block.
• 1967 :- Beginning of home science as separate faculty.
• 1969 :- Beginning of post graduation in science.
• 1970-80 :- Construction of home science block ,Humanities block, joined to the home science block.
• 1972 :- Post graduation classes begin in home science faculty.
• 1982 :- Post graduate classes in most of the arts and science subjects.

Vision-

The vision of the institution is of a fully autonomous college, which enables young women to receive education for a multifaceted development of skills towards an all round development of personality. The institution should also provide for career counselling and for activities towards an active social orientation.

Goals-

The goals of the college are as follows. -To provide oppurtunities to the girls for quality education and to impart knowledge in order to strengthen their status in society through social awareness activities, as well as to provide facility for research orientation( wherever posiible). -To enhance sklls and compelencies in all areas relevant to their professional and industrial social scenario.
